We talk about protection a lot here at Arc-Zone and we’re usually talking about welding safety gear, but in this post we’re talking about protection from contamination, specifically for your TIG welding rod.
One of the best things you can do to improve your TIG welding is minimize contamination, whether it’s oxygen being drawn into your weld zone, or atmospheric contamination (air and moisture) affecting your welding accessories (and then your weld) there are several things you can do to improve your overall weld environment. We always recommend a gas lens set up for your TIG torch, and depending on your specific application, we may recommend a Monster TIG nozzle, which creates a larger, more coherent umbrella of shield gas over your weld zone to minimize turbulence (especially when welding stainless and titanium or other special metals) that can pull oxygen into your weld zone. And don’t forget to keep your metal clean (we offer stainless steel and brass scratch brushes in a few different sizes)
We also recommend making your environment as clean as possible, from your shop to the metal you’re working with. And even your TIG welding rod… and for that, we just added these Rod Guard® TIG rod canisters to our webstore. These canister come in red or blue, and are specifically designed for 36″ (0.9m) flux-coated bronze or brazing rod and TIG filler-metals.
This is a great way to store your TIG rod, preventing contamination from atmospheric moisture.
By the way, did you know that Arc-Zone offers high-performance TIG Welding Rod for a variety of applications? At Arc-Zone you’ll find the most complete line of cut-length TIG welding rod for virtually every application because different base materials and specific welding processes call out for specific types of TIG welding rod: Stainless Steels, Mild Steels, Copper Alloys, Aluminum Alloys, Nickel Alloys and Titanium Alloys.
