My Mother, Bennie Gleghorn, from New London, Texas is pictured as the 4th person from the left as you look at the picture. She graduated from New London, Texas High School in May, 1942, took a welding trade school class in Jackson, Mississippi and went to work at Ingall’s in Pascagoula, Mississippi where this photo was taken. She met and married my father, Thomas Cain, in March, 1943. He was working as a ship fitter for Ingall’s at the time. She was 18 years old when this photo was taken…doing her part for the war effort.
My mother died in April, 2004 at the age of 80. We never knew much about her early life as a welder until we saw this picture. Thank you!
It would be great if other women in the photo could be identified by name.

How wonderful that you found our blog and added this information about your mother. I believe it is really only recently that the women who worked during the War have been celebrated– Thank you so much for sharing what you know!
