Congratulations Debra on your success in a "non-traditional" field for women! And thank you 'Carmen Electrode' for publishing these stories. It is very inspirational. I very much want to pursue a career in welding or as a 'machinist' but am not in a situation where I can just quit working to go to welding school... I am still researching financial aid / grant options. I took a 1 1/2 years of auto-shop back in high school and had intended to pursue a career in auto mechanics... but I let the boys intimidate me out of it. I was very sensitive and quite the push-over back then. However, this year I just turned 30 and though I still come across as timid & quiet, I am NOT so much a push-over! Life has definitely "hardened" me. Ive also been around and even lived with some pretty crazy guys too so there's not much that surprises or offends me anymore and I feel I can "hang" with the guys in a male-dominated field now! =)
Thanks again for this article, keep 'em coming!
