If it were my sculpture and I was dealing with the problem of welding tubing at right angles WITHOUT first notching the pieces. I would have a supply of very short pieces of tubing that were already notched and of the requisite diameter to fit snugly inside the tubing to be intersected. 3/8ths drilled holes around the perimeter of the end of the armature tube would allow plug welding of these premade inserts.
